
Zahira is a cultured, grounded artist who faces life with a positive outlook and a special energy that lights up each stage she performs on. Her talent ranges from singing/songwriting and music composition, to dance and spiritual healing. This combination of talent makes her unique and allows her to connect with many cultures and philosophies as she travels and performs around the world.
Zahira was born and raised in Ontario, Canada. At a young age she embraced music and became a gospel choir soprano. Within a few years her family moved to the US, where she became more focused on refining her natural talent. She soon realized she was bound for a career in the arts. As a teenager she became the front-woman of Soul Union, her first band, and ever since she has pursued her career as a singer, songwriter and performer. She studied Jazz Vocals and Performance at Green Mountain College, and for many years has independently trained in North Indian Classical Vocals, Sound Healing, Performance, Dance, and West African Drumming. She has also taken the initiative to learn, write and sing songs in Hebrew, Sanskrit, Arabic, Spanish, French and other Native languages in an effort to share her light and sound with the world.
Zahira’s pure, powerful, and resonant voice has received rave reviews from fans and critics around the world. This devoted artist’s voice ranges from alto to a high soprano, and she uses it as a dynamic instrument in a rich and powerful way. Her unconventional, eclectic style and positive lyrics have made a unique & transformational impact upon her listeners. Zahira radiates pure light, embodies uplifting energy on stage, and brings her audience on a journey transcending space and time. Some classify her style and tone as a melding of many inspirational figures including Nelly Furtado, Erykah Badu, Mary J. Blige, Tina Marie, Lauryn Hill and Jill Scott.
Over the past few years, Zahira has toured many times to Israel to share her musical gift with fans and new listeners all over the country. In 2011 she completed her first limited edition EP, and in 2013 she has released her latest singles “Summertime” and “Easy Days”. March 20th Zahira released her full- length album “Rise Up” a truly original Pop/Reggae/Soul fusion compilation featuring performing artists Red Fox, Yami Bolo, Sol Rising, Ronnie-Ray Padilla, Kevin Njikam, Rocker-T, Resonant Sun and many more. Following her CD release Zahira has been playing local shows in NYC in the spring and will be touring around the both the east and west coasts of Canada and USA this summer.
Besides performing, Zahira has also written songs for various films & television commercials. One of her latest recordings was composed for a movie about raising awareness on child abuse. Her original music will be featured along with Beyoncé, Stevie Wonder, and Mary J. Blige. This film will be released in theaters all over the globe shortly.
